  • Overview

    The Windows System Engineer is responsible for stabilizing legacy Windows (Server and End User) environments while defining and executing an iterative migration plan to appropriate enterprise enabling technology.  The Windows System Engineer should have expert level experience supporting large-scale and highly complex enterprise environments.  Their responsibilities include engineering services for improved efficiency, stronger governance and increased agility to meet the demands of an evolving IT landscape including multiple SaaS/PaaS/IaaS environments.    The Individual must be self-motivated and able to excel in a fast-paced, geographically dispersed enterprise environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Analyze current Windows environment to identify both technical and operational challenges. Develop and implement continuous improvement action plans. 
    • Plan, design, and implement policies and procedures to ensure Windows system provisioning and maintenance are consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide the engineering support of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and any additional Microsoft, Citrix and VMware products in the environment.
    • Conduct research on emerging Windows products, services, protocols, and standards.  Help define and implement ALG’s next generation desktop. 
    • Install and test hardware and software components are required.
    • Develop detailed Windows Administrative standards, design, and implementation documentation. 
    • Participate projects and initiatives as assigned.
    • Participate in capacity planning, performance monitoring and maintenance planning to ensure high availability. Proactively identify opportunities for service improvement.
    • Provide tier 3 escalation support.

    Qualifications

    • Expert understanding of, and hands on experience designing and configuring Microsoft Windows (Server and End User) technology including Antivirus and other System Administration tools.
    • Demonstrated experience with Active Directory including AD forest migration, remediation and consolidation, PowerShell, as well as a strong foundation in other directory service technologies including GPO, DNS and DHCP.
    • Expert knowledge and successful track record performing Windows upgrades, i.e. Windows 7 to Windows 10, in large-scale, complex enterprise environments. 
    • Experience implementing/supporting desktop virtualization such as VDI and DaaS.
    • Thorough understanding of technical principles and general knowledge of related disciplines including servers, storage, networking, operating systems, middleware and desktop.
    • Passionate about delivering a secure, stable and continually improving environment.
    • IBM Cloud experience preferred
    • Experience with Lansweeper preferred
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Outstanding troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technology/engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience. 
    • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience
    • Preferred Qualifications
      • Certifications (One of more)
        • (MCP) Microsoft Certified Professional
        • (MCSE) Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
    • ITIL knowledge, experience, and/or certification
    • Agile methodologies knowledge and experience
